Abstract
The development of technology has converged all aspects of communication and entertainment, from community interaction in virtual spaces to virtualized celebrities. Virtual YouTuber is a new form of virtual celebrity that does not have a physical body, but there are still those who like it, and even create a virtual community dedicated to the celebrity, such as VTuber Kobo Kanaeru with his fan community, Kobokerz. This study aims to know and understand the communication behavior of Kobo Kanaeru's fans on Discord social media. This study uses Henry Jenkins' fandom theory along with three main concepts that underlie the communication behavior of virtual communities. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with a virtual ethnography approach through observation. Data were collected from six predetermined chat channels, then coded to get the themes of communication behavior that occurred. The results of this study indicate that there are communication behaviors carried out by the Kobokan's Lighthouse community, and are divided into three themes, namely 1) distribution of fanfiction, 2) distribution of information by members and via automated bots, and 3) participatory interaction in the community. Members shares fanfiction as a form of expression and self-actualization to the community. Members also distribute information as part of information circulation, and become new media. Interactions carried out by members aim to participate in responding to information, providing new knowledge, solving problems collaboratively through community events.
