Abstract
This study aims to analyze the impact of ecotourism development on the socio-cultural and economic aspects of the community around Tanjung Puting National Park, especially in Section III Tanjung Harapan Region. This study was motivated by the increasing number of local and foreign tourists visiting the area. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. A total of nine respondents were interviewed for each socio-cultural and economic aspect. Indicators of socio-cultural impacts include increased community knowledge, awareness of natural and cultural wealth, changes in social status, language skills, and community empowerment. Meanwhile, indicators of economic impacts include increased income, job opportunities, changes in prices and service rates, distribution of economic benefits, and contributions to tourism development. The results of the study indicate that ecotourism development in Tanjung Puting National Park has a significant positive impact on the local community. In the socio-cultural aspect, the community has increased environmental awareness, understanding of local cultural values, and foreign language skills, especially through interaction with tourists. In addition, community empowerment through training and active involvement in tourism activities also encourages an increase in their quality of life. From an economic perspective, ecotourism development provides a real contribution to increasing income and new job opportunities, such as in the tour guide, transportation, and accommodation sectors. The distribution of economic benefits is generally felt to be even, although a more inclusive strategy is needed to ensure its sustainability. Ecotourism activities also provide encouragement for local infrastructure development. Overall, ecotourism development in Tanjung Puting National Park has a positive impact on the socio-cultural and economic aspects of the surrounding community.
