Abstract
This study examines readers' reception of news about the impeachment of President Jokowi on the Tempo.co news portal. In its reporting, Tempo presents the opinions and statements from both the pro and con sides regarding the impeachment issue, as well as how the public reacts to the issue. Mass media plays a significant role in shaping public opinion, but through reception analysis, it can be understood that the process of audience interpretation is influenced by various contextual factors. The purpose of this study is to understand how readers receive news about the impeachment of President Jokowi on the Tempo.co online news portal. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through in-depth interviews. The results of the study show that the impeachment issue of Jokowi, in the readers' view, is an issue that seems to be unconstitutional. On the other hand, there is a view that the impeachment issue of Jokowi is a consequence of the setbacks that occurred during Jokowi’s administration. Readers' reception shows that Tempo, in its reporting on the controversy, seems to support the impeachment of Jokowi. However, the majority of readers still consider the media to be credible and trustworthy, regardless of how it may appear to be biased. In reception analysis, Stuart Hall categorizes reader reception into three positions, but in this study, only two positions were found regarding the news of Jokowi's impeachment on Tempo, with the majority of readers occupying the dominant hegemonic position.
