Abstract
This study examines Generation Z's perception of marriage in the context of the celebrity divorce case of Ria Ricis and Teuku Ryan as featured on the TikTok account @viralinaja_id. The case revealed detailed reasons for the divorce as outlined in the Supreme Court's ruling, which went viral on TikTok. The content sparked significant pro and contra reactions among the public. Generation Z, as digital natives and part of an interpretive community, actively interprets messages and produces meanings, rather than passively accepting media-produced narratives. The intense and varied flow of information on social media generates diverse perceptions, including those related to marriage and divorce. Therefore, this study aims to understand how Generation Z interprets and reacts to the news of Ria Ricis and Teuku Ryan's divorce on the TikTok account @viralinaja_id. This research employs a qualitative method, analyzing the perception process, which includes the stages of selection, organization, and interpretation. Data were collected through documentation and in-depth interviews with nine Generation Z informants in Surabaya. The findings reveal that Generation Z holds diverse perceptions. They view marriage in this divorce case as an unhealthy relationship. Negative perceptions focus on Teuku Ryan's inability to lead the household, while positive and sympathetic views see the case as a form of awareness or education. However, the study also identifies variations in perceptions influenced by internal and external factors affecting views on marriage in divorce cases. Overall, Generation Z demonstrates a more flexible and open attitude toward divorce. Keywords: Perception, Generation Z, Marriage, Divorce, TikTok Content
