Abstract

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said that within 15 years, namely in 1990-2005, there has been an increase in global temperature on earth between 0.15℃-0.3℃. One of the causes of the increase in global temperature is the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) effect or the high CO2 gas trapped in the earth's atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is the largest contributor which is the result of combustion which causes Greenhouse Gases (GHG) and Global Warming. Based on previous research, it is known that Green Open Space can absorb carbon dioxide (CO2). Green Space in the UPN “Veteran” East Java campus area is one of the campus steps to control carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions generated by campus activities. Green Space can absorb and store carbon dioxide (CO2) and convert it into oxygen (O2) which will be released to nature. The purpose of this research is to analyze the source and amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions generated on the UPN “Veteran” East Java campus and the efficiency of Green Space as a mitigation measure in the campus area in storing and absorbing carbon dioxide and as an oxygen producer. This research was conducted from August to October 2024 on the campus of UPN “Veteran” East Java. The results showed that the generation of CO2 emissions resulting from the use of motorized vehicles, the use of electrical energy, human respiration activities, and the use of LPG energy in the study area amounted to 9,222,703.32 kg/year. The total carbon reserve of the Green Space area studied is 3,657,300 kg/year and carbon dioxide (CO2) absorption is 13,422,291 kg/year. While the oxygen that can be produced is 9,764,991 kg/year. From the comparison between the total carbon dioxide (CO2) absorption and the generation of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions at the research site, it is known that Green Space can absorb or reduce CO2 emissions as a whole.
