Abstract

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology is an innovation in capturing CO2 gas emissions by using absorbents that bind to the surface through the dissolution process. One of the applications in this technology is by using a gas absorption column. The tool is used in capturing CO2 gas by absorbents in the liquid phase, the gas entering an absorption column will be equipped with packing which is operated continuously. The types of absorbents used are NaOH and KOH. The purpose of this research is to study the level of CO2 gas absorbed in the absorbent solution, which is influenced by pH, temperature, DHL and compare the type of promoter to the stipper efficiency using variations in solution flow rate and CO2 gas to determine the optimum point in the process. The method used in this research is the sampling method by determining the concentration of CO2 gas in the liquid phase using the alkalimetric method and continued with the analysis of pH, temperature, DHL and FTIR. The results showed the optimum flow rate at a speed of 2 L/min for the absorben solution and 30 L/min for CO2 gas with the lowest pH reaching 6.4; while the resulting temperature reached 28.7oC, and for DHL of 0.239 µmhos/cm. It can be concluded that the faster the flow rate of the solution, the less CO2 levels are captured. In contrast to the CO2 gas flow rate, the higher the CO2 content dissolved. This is influenced by the analysis of lower pH, increasing temperature and increasing DHL. The best promoter type is NaOH solution with a concentration of 114.4 mg/L with a stipper efficiency of 52%. Keywords: Absorption, CO2 Gas, Flow Rate of Solution and Gas, NaOH and KOH
