Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examines Indonesia's multi-track diplomacy efforts to propose Ijen Geopark as a UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGp) from 2020 to 2023. Located in East Java, Ijen Geopark boasts unique geological wealth, biodiversity, and cultural heritage, including the blue fire phenomenon, the largest acidic crater lake in the world, and the cultural traditions of the Osing Tribe. This research aims to analyze diplomatic strategies that encompass geoheritage aspects, conservation, education, and sustainable management of the area. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing primary data from interviews and secondary data from related literature. The results reveal that Ijen Geopark's geoheritage values— including scientific, educational, aesthetic, and economic aspects—serve as a primary foundation for its multi-track diplomacy. These strategies involve the central and regional governments (Track 1), local community empowerment in geoheritage conservation (Track 4), support from academics through scientific research and education (Track 5), and promotion through traditional and digital media (Track 9).The success of these efforts is reflected in the official recognition of Ijen Geopark as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2023. This study confirms that the multi-track diplomacy approach, integrated with geoheritage management, effectively supports international recognition while promoting sustainable development. This recognition not only elevates Ijen Geopark's global profile but also enhances local community welfare through geotourism development. Keywords: Ijen Geopark, UNESCO Global Geopark, geoheritage, multi-track diplomacy.
