Abstract

Rapid industrial development often impacts soil quality, especially in heavy metal contamination. Silica humic acid, one type of soil improver, shows potential in improving soil quality and nutrient availability for plants. The experiment used a completely randomised design (CRD) with two factors, namely silica humic acid dosage (0, 10, 20, and 30 kg/ha) and sample location (pharmaceutical, animal feed, and paper mills). The results showed that silica humic acid application had a significant effect on increasing soil pH, C-organic, Cation Exchange Capacity and P-availability. A dose of 20 kg/ha gave optimal results for soil parameters and P uptake of maize plants in all three locations. The increase in soil P-availability was evident at 14 and 70 days after planting, at a dose of 20 kg/ha, with values of 32.12 ppm (pharmaceutical industry land), 39.54 ppm (animal feed industry land), 22.16 ppm (paper industry land). Total P uptake of corn plants showed an increase at the same dose for leaves, roots, and stems with the highest values of 0.18 ppm, 0.20 ppm, and 0.12 ppm. The study concluded that the application of silica humic acid at a dose of 20 kg/ha was effective in improving soil fertility, nutrient availability, and P uptake of maize plants. Key Words : Soil improver, organic matter, waste, heavy metals
