Abstract

This research aims to design and develop a Web-based Geographic Information System (GIS) to collect and visualize road damage reports from the public. Using a Crowdsourcing approach, the system allows collaborative reporting of road damage which includes location, description, type of damage and also supporting photos. The report data collected is stored in a database and displayed on open source-based navigation maps (Leaflet and OpenStreetMap) in the form of road damage markers, which contain reporting data that the user has done previously. The development process involves needs analysis, system design using UML (Unified Modeling Language), implementation using the Laravel framework, as well as testing using the Black Box Testing method for system functionality and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for system acceptance by users. The development results demonstrate the system's ability to collect road damage reports, provide a review feature to validate reporting data, and provide early warning to users when approaching a road damage area while navigating. The system also provides early warning in the form of a Pop Up which appears automatically when the user approaches a road damage area. It is hoped that the implementation of Web-based GIS can increase public participation in reporting road damage and help people when driving.
