Abstract
This study focuses on interpersonal communication between badminton coaches and women's doubles athletes Djarum Jakarta in increasing motivation during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research becomes significant when we see that interpersonal communication has a role in growing the confidence of women's doubles athletes to increase motivation in training activities. Because during training activities, women's doubles athletes experience a decrease in confidence during the COVID-19 pandemic which has an impact on physical condition and performance. The research method used in this research is qualitative research using McClelland's theory of motivation. The data collection of this research was collected by interview, with informants as many as five badminton coaches and five women's doubles athletes at the Djarum Badminton Association Jakarta. The data analysis technique in this study went through three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing and verification. The results of this study indicate that interpersonal communication is used between coaches and women's doubles athletes to build closeness by creating trust between them. In addition, communication is used as a bridge to unify coaches with women's doubles athletes at the Djarum Badminton Association Jakarta to carry out activities and activities in achieving goals. In accordance with McClelalland's motivation theory, namely the need for achievement, affiliation and power are closely related to badminton to support the knowledge and skills of women's doubles athletes who aim to have a spirit and sense of responsibility in badminton sports activities by fostering a social spirit and self-confidence.
