Abstract

Sidoarjo is an area with quite massive growth in infrastructure and education in East Java, as indicated by the Sidoarjo community's media literacy index in the very good category. This affects public facilities in the field of strengthening and supporting informal education such as libraries and other learning facilities. In fact, the presence of a public library in Sidoarjo City has not answered all the needs for rapid literacy development in Sidoarjo, one of which is the development of literacy communities, literacy technology and innovation in literacy activities. So there is a need for new facilities as a forum for innovation and expression more flexibly. This environment can be achieved in the form of educational and recreational facilities combined with literacy culture development facilities called the Literacy Center. The literacy center is a facility for strengthening literacy culture that develops based on technological developments and population growth, by adapting basic literacy needs to special literacy. By carrying out a hybrid method that applies old patterns to be combined or unified with new techniques and methods. Through the implementation of basic literacy concepts with developments and literacy patterns that follow the developments and demands of the world today in a more flexible and attractive manner, which is realized by the presence of the Sidoarjo Literacy Center to answer the need for spaces for variations in literacy learning media, and learning spaces together with communities working in the same field and a more flexible and expressive appearance of the literacy center building. The construction of the Sidoarjo Literacy Center will also be supported by internet technology as access to information, teaching aids and literacy vehicles to support readers' expressiveness towards the development of literacy culture.
