Abstract

PT. Candi Jaya Amerta is an industry that produces fly ash from coal combustion from boilers and liquid waste from the production results. The utilization of fly ash in the industry has not been utilized properly and the liquid waste has a high organic content created through the shrimp cracker production process. Waste containing high organic matter will result in environmental pollution. The utilization of fly ash adsorbents can reduce organic materials in liquid waste due to the high SiO2 composition. Fly ash adsorbents are first prepared and activated before being used as adsorbents. This study aims to determine the effect of sampling time on the ability to reduce COD and BOD levels in liquid waste from PT. Candi Jaya Amerta using fly ash adsorbents through a column-based adsorption process system with the Thomas, Yoon Nelson and Adam-Bohart approaches. In this study, the sampling time variables used were 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 minutes and the adsorbent heights were 9, 13, 17, 21, and 25 cm. The findings of this study showed that the best adsorbent height variation in reducing COD was 21 cm with a percentage reduction of 88.2705% and a COD adsorption capacity of 7.2593 mg/g at a sampling time of 60 minutes, while the best adsorbent height in reducing BOD was 25 cm with a reduction of 98.1509% and a BOD adsorption capacity of 87.4255 mg/g at a sampling time of 60 minutes.
