Abstract

A Nitroglycerin plant with a capacity of 40,000 tonnes/year will be established in Delta Silicon II Industrial Area, Bekasi, West Java. This factory will operate 24 hours a day and 330 days a year. Nitroglycerin plant using the raw material Glycerin from PT. Cisadane Raya Chemicals, Nitric acid from PT. Multi Nitrotama Kimia, sulfuric acid adjuvant from PT. Mahkota Indonesia. Nitroglycerin can be used in several industries, including industry mining as explosives, military industry as propellant and industry health as a medicine for heart attacks. In designing a Nitroglycerin plant from glycerin and acid as raw materials nitrate using the Schmid-Meissner process from the raw material processing process Until the final product is formed, there are several main stages, namely the preparation stage raw materials, Nitroglycerin formation stage, separation and purification stages product. The first process involves mixing sulfuric acid and nitric acid. Then the acid mixture was reacted with glycerin at a temperature of 18 oC resulting in the formation of the product nitroglycerin. The nitroglycerin product is processed purification by going through a washing process using a Washing Tank and separation based on density using a decanter. Washing process This was done three times, including using cold water, adding NaOH, and hot water. The first washing is done using water cold to sterilize the still acidic solution. Second wash with uses sodium hydroxide (NaOH) which functions to neutralize it the acids remaining in the product form sulfate salts and nitrate salts. The third washing is done using hot water to sterilize the solution is still acidic. Nitroglycerin product that has gone through separation Finally, passing through the decanter, the temperature is adjusted using a cooler.
