Abstract
One of the shells that has a high calcium carbonate content is the thorny clam shell. Thorny clam shells are often found on the coast. This study aims to synthesize hydroxyapatite from thorny clam shells using the precipitation method. Before being synthesized, the thorny clam shells were first precipitated to produce purer Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC). This study was also conducted to determine the effect of acidity (pH) and the Ca/P mole ratio on the hydroxyapatite product obtained. The products formed were then analyzed to determine their characteristics using FTIR and SEM-EDX.
