Abstract

The Production Department IIIA of PT. Petrokimia Gresik consists of the Sulfuric Acid plant, Phosphoric Acid plant, and ZA II plant. The phosphoric acid plant has a production capacity of 610 tons/day. The main raw materials used in the production of phosphoric acid are phosphate rock (sourced from Algeria and Egypt) and sulfuric acid. The phosphoric acid production process consists of five main stages: Rock grinding unit, Reaction and hemihydrate filtration, Conversion (hydration) and dihydrate filtration, Fluorine recovery, and Concentration. The efficiency of Fume Scrubbers T-2341 and T-2342, both of the spray type, was designed to be 98.42% and 81.09%, respectively. Based on actual calculations from January 11 to November 15, 2023, the average efficiency of T-2341 and T-2342 over 11 months was 75.88% and 98.09%, respectively. The efficiency of Fume Scrubber T-2341 being below the design specification was caused by scaling on the sprayer and damage to the pipes. Meanwhile, the efficiency of Fume Scrubber T-2342 being above the design specification was due to a high amount of gas being absorbed, resulting in scrubber performance exceeding the design data.
