Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of both objective and subjective financial literacy on risky credit behavior in the context of pay later usage, with financial self-efficacy serving as a mediating variable among accounting students in Surabaya. The research employs Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and Partial Least Squares (PLS) to analyze the data. Data were collected using purposive sampling from 100 accounting students who use pay later services in Surabaya. The findings indicate that objective financial literacy significantly affects financial self-efficacy. Additionally, financial self-efficacy has a significant impact on risky credit behavior. However, objective financial literacy does not influence risky credit behavior, and subjective financial literacy does not influence risky credit behavior either. Moreover, subjective financial literacy does not affect financial self-efficacy, and financial self-efficacy does not mediate the relationship between either objective or subjective financial literacy and risky credit behavior. This study underscores the importance of enhancing financial literacy and self-efficacy among students, particularly in the field of accounting, to minimize risky credit behavior. The results are expected to serve as a reference for future research, especially studies with similar themes. Furthermore, this research contributes to the development of the Theory of Planned Behavior, financial literacy, and financial self-efficacy in minimizing risky credit behavior amid the increasing popularity of pay later credit options. Keywords: Objective Financial Literacy, Subjective Financial Literacy, Risky Credit Behavior, Pay Later.
