Abstract
Choosing a major in high school (SMA) is a crucial decision that can influence students' academic development and interest in learning. The process of determining a major is often manual and prone to errors, which can have a negative impact on a student's learning experience. This research aims to develop a recommendation system for high school majors based on information technology using the Forward Chaining and Certainty Factor methods. This system is designed to help schools determine majors efficiently and accurately based on student academic scores and aptitude tests. The Forward Chaining method is used to produce rules based on students' academic scores and talent interest tests, while Certainty Factor for provide belief weights and calculate the final results according to the belief weights and user input for each rule used in the two Forward Chaining processes so as to produce appropriate major recommendations. This research involving a sample of 82 students, who were selected using the Slovin formula to determine the research sample with a sample size of 41 science students and 41 social studies students. The data used includes final junior high school grades and aptitude test results, both of which are in the form of 46 statements. This system can be applied to determine high school majors. High school major is determined by taking the largest value from the calculation results for each major, where the largest percentage of the Certainty Factor (CF) determines the final recommended major. The system test results show an accuracy rate of 93.9%, indicating that this system is able to provide recommendations for selecting majors well and accurately. Even though there were 5 errors in the test results that did not match the truth, these errors only occurred in a small portion of the test data. It is hoped that the implementation of this recommendation system will help the process of determining high school majors efficiently and objectively, provide a more appropriate learning experience, and support the optimal development of student potential.
