Abstract
Herbal medicine is useful for traditional health maintenance and will continue to be used even though chemical medicines are currently being developed. The large number of traditional herbal medicines that contain dangerous substances are circulating in society because there are many home industries that make traditional herbal medicines without using the correct rules. The aim of this research was to identify levels of artificial sweeteners cyclamate, saccharin and microbial contamination in traditional herbal medicine traded in Waru District. The design of this research is descriptive, namely exploring data about the quality of traditional herbal medicine in Waru District by looking at the content of cyclamate, saccharin and total microbes. From the research results, it is known that several samples of traditional herbal medicine containing cyclamate meet the threshold requirements, namely 600 mg/kg, 10 out of 36 samples of fresh herbal medicine, bottled herbal medicine and sachet herbal medicine contain cyclamate meeting the threshold requirements, namely 1250 mg/kg, and 24 out of 36 samples Traditional herbal medicine has a total microbial value of 3.1-6.2 log CFU/g which does not meet the maximum threshold requirement of <4 log CFU/g. It can be concluded that traders' knowledge regarding the addition of food additives is considered to be still poor and the high total bacterial test results are due to the lack of sanitation hygiene of traders when selling.
