Abstract
The purpose of this research is to determine the communication patterns of parents and teenage children who are victims of broken homes, to find out the factors that cause parents to decide to divorce and the impact of divorce on children. The location of this research is the city of Surabaya, East Java because of the large number of divorce cases. families that cause broken homes. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The data collection techniques used were direct observation, interviews and documentation. In summary, the results of this research are the development of the Communication Science Study Program, especially for the study of Interpersonal Communication Patterns of parents and broken home teenagers. The reasons for divorce include infidelity, influence from the surrounding environment, and the death of a partner. With the condition where parental divorce causes a broken home which has a very big influence on children's development because the loss of the role of parents which should be an important thing in children's growth and development affects the mental, emotional aspects and the nature of broken home children.
