Abstract

The 2021 military coup that occurred in Myanmar claimed many victims due to clashes between civilians and the military, this made Myanmar receive a lot of criticism from outside parties to immediately stop the riots. Due to the humanitarian issues caused by this coup, Myanmar has been ostracized from the international community. Various parties have decided to revoke investment and stop cooperation with Myanmar, the economic sanctions imposed by the international community have caused many losses for Myanmar. China was one of the countries whose response was eagerly awaited, given that China is Myanmar's largest economic partner. China decided to maintain its good relations with Myanmar even though this caused many pros and cons. China used its veto right to reject the UN resolution that was about to impose sanctions on Myanmar. The decision taken by China was determined rationally by considering many things including national interests that China wants to achieve through its relationship with Myanmar. This study aims to explain the reasons that drive China in determining its foreign policy towards Myanmar. The theories used by the author are National Interest, Rational Choice Theory, and Foreign Policy. This research uses an explanatory method and secondary data sources in the form of reports, research journals, and news that are in accordance with the topic.
