Abstract

Nickel is currently an important commodity in supporting technological development. Indonesia's nickel export ban has made world nickel prices fluctuate and affected the competitiveness of the largest nickel exporting countries. This study further examines what factors affect the competitiveness of the largest nickel exporting countries. The focus of this research is: 1) Assessing the competitiveness position of the largest nickel exporting countries and Indonesia with RSCA and TBI indices and Product Mapping, 2) Examine what factors affect export competitiveness, 3) Analyze the effect of GDP per capita, FDI, labor, and interest rates on nickel export competitiveness with the index (RSCA) of the largest nickel exporting countries. This study uses secondary data in the form of nickel commodity import-export values, GDP per capita, FDI, labor of Indonesia and competitor countries and world, and credit interest rates from the FED for last 15 years (2008-2022). Exel was used to see the competitiveness of each country. Eviews 12.0 was used in panel data regression with Generalize Least Square (GLS) technique. The results of this study Indonesia, Philippines, Zimbabwe, and Australia are still competitive, Russia is not competitive. FDI and labor have a significant positive effect on RSCA. GDP per capita and interest rates have no significant effect on the RSCA of Indonesia and the largest exporter countries. Keywords: Competitiveness, GDP per capita, FDI, labor, interest rates.
