Abstract
This research is motivated by the high number of delinquency cases such as brawls, illegal races, and alcoholic beverages among teenagers in Surabaya. Furthermore, it is known that these cases of juvenile delinquency are motivated by social problems and authoritarian parenting. The purpose of this research is to find out how adolescents perceive authoritarian parents. The method used is descriptive qualitative by conducting indepth interviews with six informants with the criteria of having authoritarian parents.The results showed data and information obtained from informants, it is known that there are two forms of parental authoritarian treatment, namely in the form of verbal and nonverbal. Verbal violence is violence committed through speech such as slander yelling, cursing, insulting, mocking, shouting, slandering and saying harsh words and humiliating in public with harsh words. The results also show the positive side of parental authoritarian communication patterns, namely making informants a tough person and getting used to parental treatment. Authoritarian parenting also has a positive impact on children's development, especially children's moral development so that they are not trapped in juvenile delinquency. Informants choose to divert their thoughts in other ways or can be called escape plans such as taking up new hobbies, meeting and gathering with friends, and getting closer to God. There are several factors behind the occurrence of parental authoritarian communication patterns, namely the role factor in the family where parents feel they have power and authority over all matters relating to children. The way of educating that was passed down from the informant's grandparents to the informant's parents, so that the informant's parents continued to do the same to their children.
