Abstract
This research is motivated by the marriage of the Batak and Javanese tribes in general, namely the first family has the identity of the Batak and Javanese tribes, and the second the Batak and Javanese ethnic families as an example for the public. From the above, the researcher can finally find out how the acceptance of intercultural family marriages towards Batak and Javanese families.This study uses a qualitative research method with a study of reception analysis of Stuart Hall's encoding-decoding theory. This method views the message maker as creating a message in such a way with a certain meaning that is expected to be accepted by the audience. However, the audience themselves can also interpret the text according to their respective fields of experience and frame of reference. The results showed that there were differences in reception between one informant and another. The audience negotiates based on their respective knowledge and experience. The researcher concludes that the aspects presented in this study do not fully agree. There is a meaning of communication patterns, intercultural meanings. The meaning of the informant moves by itself from one position to another. The interpretation comes from knowledge, experience obtained from the everyday environment.
