Abstract

Financial difficulties, also known as financial distress, refer to a condition where a company experiences a significant decline in its financial state. The financial condition of a company can be observed from its financial statements, which provide information about the company's performance and financial position. This study aims to examine the effect of institutional ownership, leverage, and liquidity on financial distress. The measurement of financial distress in this study uses the calculation of Earnings Per Share (EPS). The population used in this study consists of companies in the property and real estate sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2020 to 2022. This study uses a quantitative method with secondary data as the source of information. The independent variables in this study are institutional ownership, leverage, and liquidity, while the dependent variable is financial distress. The population in this study comprises 78 companies. The study uses a purposive sampling technique with a sample of 24 companies, resulting in 72 observational sample data points for the period 2020-2022. The analytical technique used is the Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) version 26. The results of this study show that institutional ownership has a significant positive effect on financial distress, whereas leverage and liquidity do not have a significant effect on financial distress. Simultaneously, the three independent variables do not have an effect on financial distress.
