Abstract

Microalgae have their respective abilities in absorbing nutrients, especially nitrate and phosphate. In several journals it is stated that microalgae are often used as phycoremediation. Nitrate and phosphate are macronutrients for microalgae that are needed based on certain ratios. So a lack of nitrogen content can result in substantial inhibition of algae growth and result in suboptimal nutrient consumption. The following research aims to determine the effectiveness of the microalgae consortium on nitrate and phosphate removal, determine the effect of the N:P ratio on the abundance of microalgae and chlorophyll-a. The microalgae used is Tetraselmis sp. and Chaetoceros sp. After being tested in batches, it was discovered that the microalgae consortium was able to remove nitrate content up to 94.1% and phosphate content up to 69.7%. This effectiveness occurs in the pH range of 7.8 – 8.9 with a temperature of 28.67℃ - 22.67℃. The ratio of nitrate and phosphate content influences the abundance of microalgae. Abundance increased as sampling time progressed until day 7. The 16:1 ratio was influential in producing the highest abundance and chlorophyll-a for a greater variety of microalgae consortia than other ratios. In the chlorophyll-a test, the ratio N:P=8:1 shows the lowest concentration in each consortium.
