Abstract

The organic material contained in tofu liquid waste is quite high, so if it is disposed of immediately it will cause pollution. So the waste treatment, wastewater treatment that utilizes microorganisms is called biological treatment, where in this study using activated sludge as microorganisms that will work to decompose the organic materials contained in tofu liquid waste into materials that do not harm the environment. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the concentration of microorganisms and aeration time on the reduction of TSS and COD concentrations in tofu wastewater. The results of the research conducted show that aerobic biological wastewater treatment is very efficient in reducing TSS and COD concentrations. The longer the aeration time, the greater the reduction in TSS and COD levels. The lowest reduction in TSS and COD values in tofu liquid waste was obtained during aeration for 10 hours with the addition of 1840 mg/L of microorganisms with a TSS value of 19 mg/L, a COD of 211.2 mg/L, with a pH value of 7, so the quality of the treated wastewater meets the established tofu wastewater quality standards.
