Abstract
Pre-Plan The Sodium Thiosulfate Pentahydrate Factory is planned to be able to produce with a capacity of 40,000 tons/year in crystalline solid form. The sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate factory is needed in Indonesia because it has many benefits. Sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate is quite effective in the process of washing gold minerals and is widely used in the medical field as an antidote to poisons and chemotherapy. A brief description of the process of the sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate factory is that first the soda ash is dissolved in a dissolution tank with the addition of process water from the utility. The soda ash solution is then fed to the aeration tank for the contacting process. In the aeration column, the soda ash solution is contacted with sulfur dioxide gas in the opposite direction. The sodium bisulfate solution resulting from the contact is then fed to the iron pot (reactor) for the neutralization process of sodium bisulfate into sodium thiosulfate with the addition of soda ash and sulfur. In the reactor, the reaction occurs at a temperature of 60°C with a conversion of 95% achieved. The sodium thiosulfate solution is then concentrated in the evaporator and crystallized into sodium thiosulphate pentahydrate in the crystallizer. The crystals and mother liquor are then separated in a centrifuge. The mother liquor is discharged for waste processing, while the resulting product will have its water content removed in a rotary dryer with the help of hot air. Next, the sodium thiosulphate pentahydrate will be cooled in a cooling conveyor before enters the ball mill to make the surface area uniform. This factory was established in an industrial area, namely in the PIER (Pasuruan Industrial Estate Rembang) industrial area, Pasuruan and operates for 330 days/year.
