Abstract

The batik industry is an industry that has the potential to produce liquid waste which contains heavy metals which have a bad impact on the environment, is wrong the other is the heavy metal lead. Waste fluid containing lead (Pb) very cloudy, colorful, and has inappropriate management so cause serious problems for water bodies, communities, and can pollute environment. This research aims to reduce levels of the heavy metal lead (Pb) in liquid waste from the batik industry using natural materials, namely Activated charcoal from siwalan shells uses sodium chloride (NaCl) activator with the adsorption method. The process of making activated charcoal from siwalan shells uses sodium chloride (NaCl) as an activator to increase absorption capacity against the heavy metal lead. This adsorption method for the heavy metal lead was carried out by using two varied operating conditions, namely heavy with the weight of activated charcoal from siwalan shells is 0.5 grams; 1 gram; 1.5 grams; 2 grams ; 2.5 grams. The contact time used is 30 minutes; 60 minutes; 90 minute ; 120 minutes; 150 minutes. The highest reduction in lead compounds occurred at an adsorbent weight of 2 grams with a contact time of 150 minutes and obtained a percent reduction lead (Pb) of 98.5%. This shows that activated charcoal from Siwalan shells can reduce levels of the heavy metal lead which is increasing The weight of the adsorbent is greater and the longer the contact time, the higher it is percentage of absorption of the heavy metal lead in liquid waste from the batik industry.
