Abstract

This pioneering period began in 1935, when a Dutch scholar named Ir. Van Ess conducted geological research around Gresik. Survey results indicates the presence of large limestone deposits. This discovery encouraged the Dutch government to establish a cement factory. However, the surveys conducted were not sustainable due to the outbreak of World War II. In 1950, Drs. Moh. Hatta (vice president of the Republic of Indonesia at that time), encourage the government to realize the cement factory construction project the. The results of repeated research concluded that the process The establishment of the Semen Gresik factory is very good. It was reported that the deposit of minerals This can meet the needs of cement factories operating with capacity of 250,000 tons per year for 60 years. March 25, 1953, with Raden Meester Soewandi's notary deed number 41 Jakarta, a legal entity was established N.V. Semen Gresik. The subsequent realization of the construction of the Semen Gresik factory by the Indonesian government handed over to BIN (State Industrial Bank). With for this assignment, BIN began making preparations, especially for: concerns the provision of local financing in the form of rupiah. Medium for foreign currency financing, using Bank USA credit. The consultant for the preparation for the construction of this factory is White Eng AS and Mc Donald Co. assigned to determine the location as well as planning the construction of the factory. The physical construction of the factory began in April 1955. The construction of the first phase of the factory is intended to establish a factory that has a combustion furnace with a capacity of 250,000 tons/year with the possibility of expansion in the future. After approximately two the year of implementation of the project construction, to be precise, August 7 1957, President Soekarno inaugurated the Semen Gresik Factory with a capacity of 250,000 tons/year. In 1961, the Semen Gresik factory carried out its first expansion by adding one combustion kiln so that production capacity increases to 375,000 tons/year. On April 17, 1961, NV status. Semen Gresik turned into a state company, namely PN. Semen Gresik. And finally the date 24 October 1969, its status changed again to PT Semen Gresik (PERSERO) until now. In 1972, the Semen Gresik factory underwent its second expansion by adding one kiln so the capacity becomes 500,000- 600,000 tons/year. The four kilns above are for wet processes. In the year of 1979, a third expansion was carried out by adding two kilns for processing dry, so production capacity becomes 1.5 million tons/year. In 1988, fuel conversion from oil to coal was carried out as an effort to reduce fuel costs. In 1991, PT Semen Gresik (PERSERO) Tbk. hold a go public after listing on the stock exchange on July 8, 1991 by selling 27% (40 million) shares to the public. The composition of share ownership becomes State 83% and Society 27%. Optimization of the Semen Gresik factory was carried out in 1992 by changing the Suspension Preheater type from Gepol to Cyclone, so that the installed capacity of the Semen Gresik Unit I and II factories becomes 1.8 million tons/year. On November 16 1994, a cooperation agreement was signed between PT Semen Gresik with Fuller International for the construction of the fourth expansion, namely the Semen Gresik Unit III factory in Tuban City with a capacity of 2.3 million tons/year and was inaugurated by President Soeharto on September 24 1994. One of the reasons for establishing Unit III in Tuban is the geographical structure of the city.
