Abstract
The combination of concrete and asphalt roads often experiences failures, with the most dominant cause being water. Asphalt, naturally derived from oil, cannot bond with water. Consequently, when water enters the voids in the asphalt concrete mixture, the mixture undergoes damage. The research titled "The Influence of Adding Thermosetting Polymer Material to Asphalt Concrete Mixtures" aims to determine whether thermosetting polymer material can be used as an additional material in road pavements. This study conducted asphalt concrete mixture tests with variations in asphalt content: 5.31%, 5.81%, 6.31%, 6.81%, and 7.31%, and the optimum asphalt content was found to be 7.31%. Marshall parameter values for the 7.31% asphalt content were stability at 2234.31 kg, flow at 3.65 mm, Marshall Quotient at 607.63 kg/mm, VIM at 4.66%, VMA at 18.47%, and VFA at 74.86%. Additionally, Marshall characteristic tests were conducted with polymer variations (2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10%), and the optimum polymer content was found to be 9%. Marshall parameter values for the 9% polymer content were stability at 2082.3 kg, flow at 3.89 mm, Marshall Quotient at 607.63 kg/mm, VIM at 4.66%, VMA at 18.47%, and VFA at 74.86%. The Marshall test results with 9% polymer content met the requirements of the 2018 General Specifications of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, with a minimum stability value of 800 kg, minimum flow of 2 mm, maximum 4 mm, minimum VMA of 15%, minimum VFA of 65%, and a minimum VIM of 3% and maximum 5%. Therefore, the optimum polymer content is at 9%. Keywords: Asphalt concrete, Marshall, thermosetting polymer, wet method.
