Abstract
The mass media have the ability to reach audiences widely and quickly. One form of mass media is film. Film is a portrait of the society in which the film was x made (Sobur, 2003: 127). Films are also a medium to carry out a movement, one of which is through short films. The object of this research is the film Bunga dan Tembok made by Eden Junjung. One aspect that is very thick is how Widji Thukul's family, namely Siti Dyah Sujirah (played by Erythrina Baskoro) and Fajar Merah (played by Bowie Putra Bayu Mukti) experienced difficulties after losing their husband and father, Widji Thukul due to the disappearance of activists in 1998. The aspect studied in this research is the meaning of injustice contained in the short film Bunga dan Tembok. The theory used to study the film Bunga and the Wall is the relationship between signs and their meanings, and how a sign is combined into a code (J. Fiske and J. Hartley, 2003: 22). There are three levels of study, namely, the level of reality, the level of representation and the level of ideology. The results of this study are a. at the level of reality the idea of injustice is most prominently shown through the expressions and gestures shown by the main character in the film; b. at the level of representation of the notion of injustice the most prominent is the editing technique; c. at the ideological level, the scene is associated and negated with the concept of justice according to John Rawls (Rawls, 2005). The concept of injustice that was found was the injustice in the case of the disappearance of Wiji Thukul who was lost in the tragedy '98. Key words: John Fiske's semiotics, short films, injustice.
