Abstract

The infestation of Plant Pests (OPT) poses a significant challenge in maize cultivation. One approach to monitor pest attacks on crops is through the utilization of a light trap. The application of a light trap is based on insects phototactic behavior, reacting to light stimuli. Insects exhibit varied responses to different light spectra. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of light color on the diversity of nocturnal insects in corn fields. The research was conducted in Bendo Village, Pare District, Kediri Regency, utilizing a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments of light colors: red, yellow, blue, and white. The results revealed that nocturnal insects in corn fields consist of 6 orders, 13 families, and 18 genera, including herbivorous, predatory, pollinator, and detritivorous species. The highest total number of individuals was found under the blue light (531 individuals), while the lowest was observed under the red light (296 individuals). The calculated values for diversity index (H’), species evenness index (E), and species richness index (R) were highest under the blue light, with values of 2.07, 0.73, and 2.55, respectively. Light color significantly influenced the average number of captures of nocturnal insects, with the blue light exhibiting the highest average capture. The highest efficiency was observed with the blue light, reaching 100% in the number of captured insect species and total individuals. The compatibility between predator insects and target pests in corn fields revealed that Doru sp., Paederus sp., and Reduviidae have the potential to serve as natural enemies of Lepidoptera order pests.
