Abstract

Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is a plant that is very easy to find in various parts of the world with tropical and subtropical climates and in Indonesia it is very easy to find. Every plant cultivation activity is not free from insect attacks which result in damage to the fruit, leaves or stems, these insects are called pests. Fruit flies are important pests for horticultural products, especially commercial fruits that have high economic value. Various control techniques for controlling fruit fly attacks are carried out, for example fruit wrapping, fumigation of the garden, and the use of insecticides. This control is less effective because the fruit fly population is still high and the use of insecticides causes problems. One effective control is the use of traps with the attractant methyl eugenol. The manufacture of basil extract was carried out at the Agricultural Training Center (BBPP) Ketindan Malang in April 2023 and the application of basil extract was carried out at the Pasuruan Mango Garden from May to June 2023. The research design used was a Completely Randomized Factorial Design, the first factor being dose and treatment. The second factor is the height of the fruit fly trap placement. The number of experimental units was 27 fruit fly traps with 3 replications, installing 1 trap per mango tree. The data obtained were analyzed using the ANOVA test and then tested further by Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a significance level of 5%. The results of the research showed that there were two types of fruit flies caught, namely Bactrocera dorsalis and a hybrid type and all were males. The basil extract used as an attractant had a greater effect on fruit fly catches compared to using the petrogenol product. The placement of the height of the trap affects the catch of fruit flies, namely at a height of 1-1.5 m, there are more catches compared to a height of 2 m.
