Abstract
This research discusses Samsung Electronics as the largest electronic device maker in the world expanded its production base to Vietnam. Foreign direct investment invested by Samsung Electronics since 2008 gets very good results or profits. Coupled with the South Korea - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (VKFTA) in 2015, the amount of FDI from South Korea to Vietnam has almost doubled. By applying the concept of vertical FDI with Samsung Electronics' focus on resource seeking and efficiency seeking, the results of this study explain the Samsung Electronics FDI expansion strategy by Samsung Electronics for the E&E sector in Vietnam, namely in resource seeking, Samsung Electronics is looking for the cheapest raw materials with the best quality and cheap labor to reduce production costs, and in efficiency seeking where Samsung Electronics builds factories and builds research centers to improve quality for researchers and the local Vietnamese workforce.
