Abstract

Synthetic plastic waste is one of the biggest problems worrying in Indonesia. The types of plastic circulating in society are: synthetic plastic from petroleum raw materials which are limited in quantity and not can be renewed. Every year around 100 million tons of plastic are produced worldwide used in various industrial sectors and that's what plastic waste is all about produced every year. This type of plastic cannot be degraded by microorganisms or are difficult to biodegrade (non-biodegradable) in environment because microorganisms are unable to change type. Plastic waste is a global problem in the world because every year millions of tons of plastic manufactured and used in various industrial sectors. Based on INAPLAS data (Indonesian Oleafin Aromatic Plastic Industry Association), plastic use in Indonesia reached 4.7 million tonnes in 2015 and is expected to increase this year to 5 million tonnes.
