Abstract

Tofu production industry in it’s process produces solid wastes and liquid wastes. Solid wastes, called tofu dregs are produced by coagulation and filtration. Tofu dregs are mentioned to have higher content of nutrients compared to the liquid wastes. Based on initial analysis, tofu dregs have macro nutrients content of 0,4% nitrogen, 0,16% phosporous, and 0,53% of kalium, in which those nutrients have a potential to increase the fertility of both soil and plants. This research has a purpose to increase the nutrients content of tofu dregs by doing optimization of banana peel microbial starter volume and fermentation time to get a solid organic fertilizer that can fulfill the Indonesian National Standard. Research method that is used is randomized group design method, designed to find the optimum process condition in the production of tofu dregs solid organic fertilizer using Response Surface Methodology. Production process of solid organic fertilizer based on tofu dregs is using fermentation with the help of EM-4 bacteria with variation of microbial starter volume, which are: 25 ml; 35 ml; 45 ml; 50 ml; and 55 ml aswell as variation of fermentation time, which are: 3 days; 5 days; 7 days; 9 days; and 11 days. Tests are ran to find the effect of microbial starter volume and fermentation time to the content of nitrogen, phosphorous and kalium in tofu dregs solid organic fertilizer. The maximum response was obtained in the variation of 55 ml microbial starter volume with 11 days fermentation time, with 1,08% nitrogen content, 1,214% phosporous content and 2,115% kalium content. Verification result of the optimum response prediction shows nitrogent content of 2,02505%, phosporous content of 2,11075%, and kalium content of 3,22723%. The value obtained is in range of prediction and indicates that the model can be used to predict the three responses well.
