Abstract
The Aniline plant from Nitrobenzene using a vapor phase catalytic hydrogenation process with a capacity of 70,000 tonnes/year is planned to be established in the Gresik Industrial Area (KIG) located on Jalan Raya Roomo, Manyar, Gresik Regency. Aniline is widely used to make methyl diphenyl diisocyanate compounds which are used as raw materials for making polyurethane polymers. It is known that in its application polyurethane polymer can be used as a foam as an elastomer material, upholstery fabric, and adhesive glue. Apart from that, aniline is also used in the manufacture of various chemical products, dyes and pigments, in the agricultural sector, aniline is used in the manufacture of pesticides such as herbicides, fungicides and insecticides. The application of aniline in the pharmaceutical sector is that it can be used as a raw material for making analgesics, typyretics and anti-allergens. The Aniline factory is planned to operate 24 hours a day, 330 days a year. The process of making aniline briefly begins by reacting the nitrobenzene raw materials which have been made into gas and hydrogen gas in a multitubular fixed bed reactor with a copper catalyst. The reaction conversion reached 98%. The aniline product formed from the reactor is then passed through a vertical drum separator to be separated from excess hydrogen gas. Next, the aniline from the vertical drum separator is separated from the water content using a distillation process in a distillation column. The product resulting from the distillation process is aniline with a purity of 99.58%.
