Abstract
ABSTRACT Waste generated from the tofu production process contains high levels of organic materials, such as proteins and amino acids. Moreover, Nitrogen is one of the organic compounds contained in the liquid waste produced by the tofu industry. It comes from soybean which is one of the main ingredients in the tofu production process. Another chemical element that is also present in its liquid waste is phosphate. To manage this liquid waste, one of commonly-used technologies is the photo-catalyst which has the ability to transform organic compounds into CO2 and water that are relatively safer. Throughout the process, it requires medium like Resin Immobilized Photocatalyst-ZnO (RIP-ZnO) to absorb pollutant materials. Based on the aforementioned background, this research aims to examine the effect of resin capacity in reducing the total parameters of Nitrogen and Phosphate contained in liquid waste of tofu production industry. In this study, the RIP-ZnO catalyst was divided into some different mass-based groups, namely 25 gr, 37.5 gr, 50 gr and 25 gr as controlled resin, as well as with UV lamp distance variations, namely 0 cm, 10 cm and 20 cm. Furthermore, sampling was also carried out at different times, namely 0, 4, 8 and 12 hours. Based on the research results, it was found that the resin capacity used in removing the total Nitrogen parameter had the highest value of 1.14542 g/L with a removal percentage of 33% and the lowest value of 0.00012 g/L with a removal percentage of 59%. Likewise, the resin capacity used in removing the phosphate parameter had the highest value of 0.67301 g/L with the removal percentage of 40% and the lowest value of 0.00008 g/L with the removal percentage of 72%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the resin capacity value is inversely proportional to the removal percentage of pollutant parameters. Keyword : Resin Capacity, Total-N, and Phospate
