Abstract
A Chlorine Factory (Calcium Hypochlorite or Ca(OCl)2) based on calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2), sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and chlorine (Cl2) with a capacity of 40,000 tonnes/year is planned to be established in the JIIPE Industrial Area, Regency Gresik, East Java. This chlorine factory uses a continuous operation system 24 hours a day with 330 working days and 188 employees. This factory uses 99.8% Ca(OH)2 raw material obtained from PT. Niraku Jaya Abadi in the city of Surabaya, 98% NaOH obtained from PT. Nusa Indah Megah, and 99.99% Cl2 gas obtained from PT. Various Industrial Gases in the city of Sidoarjo. The products produced are Calcium Hypochlorite (Ca(OCl)2) with a purity level of 98.5479% and Sodium Chloride (NaCl) with a purity level of 10.12%. Chlorine has many uses in the industrial sector, including in the chemical industry, used as a disinfectant, as a bleaching powder, used for processing liquid waste. The use of chlorine contained in pesticides can also be used to eradicate pests. Seeing its very wide use, establishing this factory is a good alternative to reduce imports from abroad and support the development of domestic industry.
