Abstract
Chloromethane plant from methanol and hydrogen chloride uses hydrochlorination process with a capacity of 32,000 tons / year will be built JIIPE (Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate) Industrial Area in the Village Sukomulyo, Manyar District, Gresik Regency. This factory operates 24 hours in a day 330 days a year with the raw materials used, namely methanol 99.85% and hydrogen chloride 33%. Some uses of Chloromethane is the main raw material in the rubber catalyst industry, as an auxiliary raw material in the silicone industry, as the main raw material in the refrigerant industry, and as the main raw material in methyl production cellulose, as well as other chemical industries such as polymers, anti-knocking, etc. The raw materials are methanol and hydrogen chloride in the initial liquid phase evaporated in a vaporizer to a temperature of 150 °C. Then, it was raised temperature up to 350 °C using a heater. After that, both ingredients is fed into a Fixed Bed Multitube type reactor at temperature 350 °C and 1 atm pressure. In this reactor a process will occur where atoms The halogen from hydrogen chloride combines with organic compounds (hydrochlorination) with the help of a γ-alumina catalyst produces the product Chloromethane and water as well as the remaining unreacted methanol reactant. Mixture The gas produced from the reactor is then cooled using a cooler to a temperature of 100 °C. Then, the next gas mixture is fed headed for distillation to separate the product (Chloromethane) from impurities (water and methanol). In a distillation apparatus, the gas mixture enters the column distillation on the feed plate, then goes to the bottom to the reboiler for some of it is re-evaporated from some of it is taken as a product down the column distillation. The product from the bottom of the distillation column is water and impurities, then discarded to liquid waste processing. The steam and reboiler products then go to the section top of the distillation column to the condenser. In the condenser, Chloromethane vapor then condensed at the dew point temperature of the material. Condensate then stored temporarily in the accumulator and then distributed in part as reflux of the distillation column and as the top product of the distillation column (distillate). The distillate product in the form of Chloromethane is then fed to the tank Chloromethane reservoir with a minimum purity of 99% as a product end.
