Abstract

One of the meat processing industries in Jombang Regency produces a large amount of floating sludge waste (oil and fat) in its grease trap units. If proper management of these oils and fats isn’t carried out, it can cause various environmental problems. In addition, in the field of fisheries, there is a problem that the price of fish feed always rises every year. Therefore this study aims to analyze the best nutrition in the combination of catfish feed made from waste oil and fat from the meat processing industry with tofu dregs, organic vegetables, and discarded eggs. The method used in this research is by means of fermentation using EM4, molasses and adding other waste materials to improve the nutrition of the feed made. There were 5 treatments each: K0 (100% ML IPD), K1 (50% ML IPD + 30% AT), K2 (50% ML + 30% SO), K3 (50% ML IPD + 30% TA), K4 (20% ML IPD + 20% AT + 20% SO + 20% TA). Data analysis used proximate analysis, then compared with SNI 01-4087-2006. The results showed that the best nutritional content was in the K.3 feed with water content (6.32%), ash content (10.49%), crude fat content (39.05%), and crude fiber content (3.1 %) which has qualify SNI standards. Meanwhile, the protein content (24.48%) does not qualify SNI standards. K3 feed also has a high level of palatability and produces the best growth in body weight and length for catfish among other artificial feeds, although commercial feed remains the most popular with fish and is most significant because the quality and nutrition of the feed is very suitable to SNI. By utilizing floating sludge (oil and fat) as catfish feed, it can reduce the accumulation of liquid waste from the meat processing industry by 660 kg/day and can produce 264 kg of artificial catfish feed, so that environmental pollution can be prevented.
