Abstract
Groundwater is a source of clean water that is used for daily needs. However, the problems that often occur with groundwater are that the water is yellow, has an odor and the water looks cloudy. It is possible that there are water pollutants in the water. One processing that can be carried out is filtration using the Slow Sand Filter (SSF) method. This research used sand filtration media and additional media is clam shells. Clam shells contain 66,70% calcium carbonate (CaCO3), which can absorb heavy metals in water. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of reducing and saturating filters with and without clam shell media in reducing Iron (Fe), turbidity, TSS and total coliform parameters. The parameter quality standards refer to Permenkes RI No. 32 of 2017, namely turbidity 25 NTU, iron (Fe) 1 mg/l, total coliform 50 MPN/100ml and PP No. 22 of 2021, namely TSS 50 mg/l. The results of this research show that the Fe parameters in the sand reactor still exceed the quality standards. Meanwhile, reactors with the addition of clam shell media can reduce Fe as specified. However, the parameters for turbidity, TSS and total coliforms have been able to be reduced using a sand reactor or with the addition of clam shell media and have met the established quality standards.
