Abstract
Humans are social creature who needs interaction with others as form of communication. Misunderstands that happened between nurse and patient can affect those communication process. Human can fulfill their emotional needs and improve their mental health through communication. One of the problem that elder with face is ability to remember or memory loss. This study is to discover communication pattern that used between nurse and patient. The theories used is interpersonal communication, VERA communication pattern, and TANDEM communication pattern. Method that used is in depth interview with nurses in nursing home through descriptive approach which aims to describe qualitatively communication pattern between nurse and dementia patient in Griya Werdha nursing house Surabaya. The data was consist of interview and observation. Can be concluded that model VERA in communication pattern used between nurse patient by touching and body language, while model TANDEM in communication pattern used between nurse and patient by words.
