Abstract

Cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.) is very popular with Indonesian people, so public demand is very high. Based on this situation, to continue to meet demand, superior varieties are being assembled using gamma ray irradiation. The effect of mutations will cause variations in characters in plants, which will then be tested for plant growth and yield as important superior characteristics of cayenne pepper plants. This research aims to determine whether there are differences in the mutant accessions and determine whether there are superior mutant candidates. The research was carried out at the experimental field of the Faculty of Agriculture, UPN "Veteran" East Java. The research was structured using a single factor Randomized Block Design consisting of 10 mutant M4 accessions, 1 control plant, and 2 comparison varieties, namely ORI 212 and Mhanu. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey HSD test. The results of ANOVA and Tukey HSD test showed that there were differences in growth and yield in the 10 mutant accessions compared to control and comparison plants. The accession with superior characters to the control plants in 13 parameters was M4-4.
