Abstract

Corn is the second most important food crop after rice, the majority of Asian people uses corn as fodder and a substitute for rice, the average national corn production reaches 4.89 tons/ha of course this is not able to meet the national corn demand, therefore there is additional corn imports, the cause of the lack of corn supplies is caused by many things, one of which is the pest Spodoptera frugiperda. S. frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is an invasive pest known to have the main host, namely corn in Indonesia. S. frugiperda attacks corn in the vegetative phase by 80% thus it can cause crop failure if no control is applied. Pest control uses a entomopathogenic fungus L. lecanii which has several advantages including being environmentally friendly and easy to find. This fungus has the ability to control various kinds of pests including S. litura, brown planthopper and cabbage caterpillars. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the entomopathogenic fungus L. lecanii in controlling S. frugiperda. The study used RAL and 6 treatments of spore density (106 , 107 , 108 ,109 ,1010 and 100 conidia/ml) with 4 replications. The results showed that the entomopathogenic fungus L. lecanii was able to control the S. frugiperda population with the highest mortality of 33%. The intensity of damage produced by the application of L. lecanii was able to inhibit the intensity of damage by 37% in the treatment of 1010 conidia/ml.
