Abstract
National defense is one of the important aspects to ensure the existence and survival of the nation and state. Strong national defense and security is supported by the existence of defense equipment or defense equipment. The Indonesian government has established cooperation with the French state in the field of defense equipment, namely the trade in combat equipment. Currently, the cooperation is being developed with cooperation in the field of defense in the purchase of Rafale fighter jets. This study aims to analyze the form of cooperation between Indonesia and France in the purchase of Rafale fighter jets in 2020-2022. This study was analyzed descriptively, the scope of the research from 2020 to 2022. This study used qualitative methods with secondary data sources and analyzed using qualitative data analysis techniques. The results of this study are that Indonesia has a national interest in cooperating with France on the purchase of Rafale fighter jets, including the interests of core values as protection of Indonesia’s way of life so that it has the opportunity to secure its territory’s territory. In addition, to fulfill defense capabilities to achieve the strategic targets or Minimum Essential Forces (MEF) phase III for the 2019-2024 period. The middle range objectives owned by Indonesia are to increase economic demand betterment, increase state prestige and self-extension. Indonesia's long-range objectives in cooperation with France are to make the Indo-Pacific a peaceful, stable, and prosperous area.
