Abstract

Mint plants produce essential oil (peppermint oil) which is widely used as a medicinal ingredient and industrial raw material. This study aims to determine the proper use of aeration and planting media and their interaction on the growth and yield of mint plants. This research was conducted in October 2022-January 2023 in screen house at Rejosopinggir, Tembelang, Jombang, East Java. The design used in this study was a Split Plot Design (SPD) in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) eith the main plot being aeration (A) with three treatments (without an aerator, 1 aeratoe, and 2 aerators) and subplots were planting media (M) with four treatments (rockwool, cocopeat, rice husk charcoal, and cocopeat+rice husk charcoal). The results showed that there was an interaction between the combination treatment of aeration with 2 aerators and cocopeat + rice husk charcoal planting media as an alternative planting medium, resulting in longer plant and root lengths. The single treatment of aeration with 2 aerators gave the best results in all parameters, but the use of 1 aerator gave the largest branch:root ratio. A single treatment of cocopeat + rice husk charcoal as an alternative planting media gave the best results in all parameters, but the use of rice husk charcoal as a planting media gave the largest brunch:root ratio.
