Abstract

The global phenomenon of K-Pop has made significant inroads into foreign markets, particularly in Indonesia. Fueled by technological advancements that provide easy access to the Korean wave, fans of NCT have engaged in various digital fandom activities. Fan fiction has emerged as a captivating cultural product within this fan community, offering fans a platform to explore their imaginative narratives centered around their idols. This research aims to describe fan culture surrounding the consumption of NCT fan fiction on Twitter in Indonesia. The study utilizes a qualitative descriptive approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews, literature reviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that NCT fan culture, as observed through fan fiction consumption, can be understood within the four internet fandom contexts: communication, creativity, knowledge, organization, and civil power. The research unveils the interconnectedness of communication between writers, readers, and fellow fans who engage in fan speaking. In the digital era, fan fiction serves as a pivotal element of fan culture, contributing significantly to the growth of fandom. Fan fiction authors, who are themselves fans, actively create and share their works on social media platforms like Twitter. They skillfully blend local Indonesian culture with foreign influences, such as South Korean culture, to provide fresh insights to readers about specific cultures. Additionally, the study highlights the ability of fan fiction authors to influence their followers toward specific goals within the fan community.
