Abstract

Humans as social creatures cannot be separated from communication activities every day. With communication, humans can connect with each other and complement each other. Basically, communication starts from the closest environment, such as family, so that communication between parents and children is strongly established. Parents also become the first place for children to learn and play an important role in shaping children’s attitudes. In carrying out this, the right communication pattern is needed to be applied to children. This research aims to find out how the communication patterns of working parents with children (case study of juvenile delinquency in Tambak Asri, Surabaya). This research was conducted using descriptive qualitative method. Data were obtained from in-depth interviews with five pairs of informants which totalled to ten informants (five parents and five children). The results of this study found that parents use authoritative (democratic) communication patterns in which parents try to involve children in every opportunity for deliberation to make decisions.
