Abstract
Air is an important element for life. Nowadays the air is getting bad and dirty. Air pollution that occurs due to the transportation sector which is increasing every year. 80% of air pollution is caused by the transportation sector which every day releases harmful substances such as CO, HC, NOx, SOx, CO2, and many more. Cigarette filter producing factory, PT. Esentra, produces cigarette filters that are not suitable for use because they do not meet standards. This study aims to see the ability of non-disposable cigarette filters in reducing emissions, as well as utilizing waste from PT. Esentra. This non-disposable cigarette filter called an adsorbent made from cellulose acetate has a high absorption and can be used as an absorber of motor vehicle exhaust emissions. Modification of the exhaust gas reactor is done in order to enter the adsorbent. This study uses variations in idle engine speed, 3000 rpm and 5000 rpm; and variations of contact time 0, 3, 15, 30, 60, and 120 in minutes. From the results of the study found that in terms of engine speed, a nonuse cigarette filter with a mixture of activated carbon (FR-B) is better at reducing CO and HC gas emissions than a non-use cigarette filter (FR-A). FR-B samples can reduce CO and HC by 1.88% and 420 ppm respectively at 5000 rpm engine speed. In terms of contact time, the FR-B sample is also better than FR-A. FR-B samples can have CO and HC percent removal values of up to 76.55% and 75.1% and can last up to 60 minutes contact time. Keywords: Adsorbent, Non-used cigarette filter, RPM, CO gas, HC gas
